Questions for those of you who have done this before:

1) How soon am I likely to be visibly pregnant?
2) Did you really refrain from deli meat for 9 months (listeria)? I like a ham sandwhich...
3) Favorite morning sickness tricks?
4) Cool pregnancy sites online? Babycenter isn't really doing it for me...
5) Is it worth reading any of the books (WTEWYE or anything else?)

Here's my experience on pregnancy:
1)First pregnancy you're not noticeably pregnant for several months but you can convince yourself you look pregnant the moment the pregnancy test says positive. I have a picture of the day I delivered at 26 weeks and you can hardly tell even then that I'm pregnant (but everyone shows differently).
2)I didn't totally avoid lunch meat but everyone will tell you something different. I'd ask your OB.
3)I liked the weekly updates emailed to me. I can't remember if I used babycenter or storknet or ivillage. I was able to surf the net at work so I made use of all the available pregnancy sites at one time or another.
4)I did use WTEWYE,I even read What to EAT When You're Expecting (which is borderline obsessive about the food you eat) and did pretty well until I was admitted to the hospital and had to eat their food for seven weeks. All my efforts went out the window and Kara still ended up healthy, albeit small. :)
5)Thankfully, I didn't have morning sickness other than smell sensitivity and that was taken care of by lots of plug-in wall air fresheners.

Hope that helps! It's amazing how much I've forgotten just 3 1/2 years later!

Nancy Elizabeth,
I would have commented sooner, but I was battling jealousy over here. ;p Congratulations!
1) My pregnancy was visible immediately. When I looked in the mirror, that is. I would say that in general 3-6 months other people might begin to notice. Some of it depends on how you carry and even more depends on how well people know you and how observant they are. I didn't tell my boss till I was over half way through and I still wonder if I could have kept it from him longer, he was such an air-head! There were even some hysterical people who (at 8+ months) said "I just thought she had gained a little weight!" A little???
2) I don't remember purposefully avoiding deli meat. Probably because I don't think I had heard about listeria. Don't ask me about caffeine or booze. :D
3) I didn't have morning sickness all that badly or for very long. Yes, go ahead and hate me. (A really cool vacation takes your mind off all kinds of things! But pregnancy can take your mind off of a cool vacation too, so I don't necessarily recommend it as a morning sickness treatment.) Eat early and often was my motto. =) That, and I found that when you feel really pukey, just GET IT OVER WITH and then you (or at least I did) feel much better.
4) Maybe I was pregnant during the stone ages?
5) Meh. Whatever. I read WTEWYE but you can take it or leave it. Our hospital gave out a shorter book I liked better but it is packed away so I can't help you with the title.
4 & 5, I'm not saying I didn't care about being informed (CJ would probably say I was obsessive), or that you shouldn't. I'm just saying shop around (library!) and you'll find what you like.

Keep on glowin'!

Thanks, guys! :-)

You know, PRE-pregnancy I would commonly look at belly pictures online and think, wow, she's in the second trimester and my stomach looks like hers! So now I'm happy because I can look at my little (?) pouch of abdominal fat and pretend it's all from pregnancy... why yes, my stomach was entirely flat before! Ha ha.

As for morning sickness, mine seems to be striking mainly mid-day (auugghh! I have to teach at 8, 9, 12, and 3 on Tuesdays! with class 1:10-2:25!) but I am experimenting with some Gingerbread Celestial Seasonings herbal tea-stuff that my MIL gave me for Christmas... it may be helping. I haven't actually thrown up yet but I'm now feeling like I'm coming close.

Thanks for your input! It is helpful to hear others' experiences.

Love, NEB

Not that I've done the pregnancy thing ... ever ... but I've got a novel recommendation!
"The Thin Pink Line" by Lauren Baratz-Logsted. It's an "outsider's" perspective on the whole pregnancy thing, plus it's got summary/paraphrases from WTEWYE at the end of every chapter.
