This is one of three red purses I've made. I don't yet have a photo of the grey-green one with embroidery on the front and a blue paisley lining (no pocket or buttons). The purses are about 9.5"x7.5"x3".
Actually, $40 sounds incredibly reasonable (perhaps too reasonable) for a (well) hand-made purse.
And just to knock an idea out there, my mother-in-law and I are thinking about putting together a women's cooperative booth at the French Market next year. If you're looking to sell some backstock and haven't launched your own boutique by April, let me know.
